Position Title: Network Engineer Northern Virginia
Position Summary: Network engineer willmonitor and securely install, configure, and maintain network equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, IP capable type I encryption devices, serial type I encryption devices, and network interface cards.
Responsibilities:
- Securely maintain the current client server configuration and initiate and coordinate move requests for servers and network equipment within four hours of request.
- Reinstall network equipment and servers one day after equipment is moved to a new location.
- Maintain accurate documentation and all system diagrams as part of this task area.
- Identify and troubleshoot all aspects of the local and wide area networks when security and/or performance problems occur or outages are reported.
- Repair problems related to incorrect configuration within four hours.
- Report problems related to hardware failure when identified to the Government upon discovery.
- If on-site spares are available, the contractor shall replace the failed component within four hours.
- Security problems discovered will be worked, in concert with the systems'/networks'/enclaves' Information Assurance Officer (IAO).
- Understand the clkient business relationship and support opening and monitoring trouble tickets with agenicies regarding Wide Area Network (WAN) outages or performance issues.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years experience in providing in-depth design and technical support of Network Security Products.
- 7+ years experience in LAN/WAN/Internet services administration
- Top Secret (Active)
- 3+ years experience in managing large technical account activity revolving around network Security products from any vendor.
- Training-Formal product training on NetScreen Firewalls, Cisco Routers/Switches and VPN products as well as some level of technical certification on NetScreen security products is desired. Additional Training can be provided but fundamentals are expected at the onset of the engagement
- Cisco and Juniper experience a plus.
- Strong understanding of: DNS, NFS, SMTP, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, UDP, and ARP.
- Strong understanding in the following security technologies and protocols: IPSEC, 802.1Q, SSH, SSL, L2TP, XAUTH, RSA-SecurID, SSL-VPNs, IPS functional knowledge of protocol anomalies, application vulnerabilities, viruses, worms, and trojans.
- An understanding of Layer 2 protocols and technologies such as the following is desirable:
- Frame Relay
- Ethernet
- DS0, DS1, and DS3 – 3,
- PPP, PPPoE, and DSL
